TREND OF THE WEEK - Nautical Blues…

Preppy nautical style is back in a big way and you don’t need to hit the high seas to embrace this look for your home. All you need is a little DIY know how and eye for style.

When incorporating the nautical look first thing your need is a gallon of crisp white paint. White is always the backdrop for this trend. Paint out all the wood in the room, the walls, even your floor. Keep it crisp and clean. Next add some accents in blue and red, this can also be done with paint, just keep your lines sharp, much like your would see on a sail boat. You can also incorporate shots of blue and red in drapes (think about adding a white stripe as trim) or bedding. Bring in throw pillows that have nautical elements like rope or and anchor motif. To make your own pillows shop for vintage scarves and sew two together. The nautical fashion trend was very popular in the 1970s so you shouldn’t have problem finding these.

To finish off your nautical room, accessories with bowls of seas shells, a vintage anchor, glass vases and bottles tied or filled with rope and if you are lucky and can find an old sail think about draping a piece from the ceiling. I know you will embrace the freshness of this style… enjoy!
