Canada’s top tastemakers

This week I decided to catch up with some of Canada’s top tastemakers to see what, in the world of home décor and interior design, is inspiring them. From Palm Springs mid-century modern to a tennis green colour palette the style-stars answers did not disappoint. Enjoy!

"Oh, to be a kid again! I love strolling through children's clothing stores to find colour inspiration! Youthful prints, saturated hues, and unexpected colour combos are such a welcome escape from today's typically safe neutral palettes."- Leigh-Ann Allaire, Colour & Design Specialist Benjamin Moore

I get inspired by just about anything I see. It’s in “How” you look at things, not necessarily what you look at. I get inspired by natural elements as well as design elements in any space; outdoors, hotels, restaurants, homes and even public washrooms. Ramsin Khachi, Cityline Guest Expert, Khachi Design Group.

“Right now I say take a break for summer! Leave the reclaim and warm colours on the shelf until the fall. Be inspired by the lake and classic summer sports. Use splashes of bright blue and vintage tennis greens. Get playful, stay up late, breath it all in for winter inspiration storage it's summer!” -Michael Ford, carpenter featured on Inside the Box with Ty Pennington.

"Alright, so I haven’t been to Morocco (yet!) but lately I can’t help feeling inspired by all of the bright colors, intricate patterns and unique detailing of Moroccan design." Anytime you can use the words exotic, colorful, and fun to describe a style, I am in!" -Jillian Harris, TV personality and designer on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

“My tastes keep changing—but right now I am really into mid-century modern design. I was inspired by a week I spent in Palm Springs. From the flat roofed MCM house we rented to the funky and fun decor of The Parker Hotel, I am smitten with the clean lines and minimalistic furniture. The accessories are playful and quirky. The colours...teals, oranges, and yellows can't help but make me happy.”- Jill Proseilo, Show Manager, Vancouver Home + Design Show.

“Right now, I am obsessed with turning old things into new. So I love, for example, Lisa Occhipinti’s works with used books My own current project is transforming two chairs I found at the curb. I’m working with Jim Connelly of Masterpieces Studio on them – they’re still in the “before” stage, but they will be finished in a bronzed foil and covered in gorgeous red, gold and brown paisley fabric I snagged for next to nothing at a sale at the Textile Museum of Canada.  I love breathing new life in perfectly good pieces that are destined for landfill.”- Vicky Sanderson, Home and Décor specialist, On the House
