A Fine Line

Lately I’ve noticed a lot of new shapes in sofa and armchair design. Canadian’s are leading the way in this trend so I decided to take a closer look at two of my favourite manufactures and the new styles of sofas and armchairs they are creating.

The Gala collection from Italdivani  features gentle curves and swooping arms that define a chic but relaxed style that’s very new and fresh.

Available in a wide selections of fabrics and leather (I love the white leather shown here), what I like about this design so much it’s longevity. The curves keep it modern but the detailing is so refined that this collection can take you from loft or condo living into a more traditional home. In other words if you are shopping for a living room set now and live in a condo/loft, you will be able to take this set with you if you ever move into a home. It’ll work well in any space. To add a little pop to this set I would suggest adding a mix & match collection of high-end pillows, perhaps something from Thomas Paul .

The low profile L shaped arms on the Ted Sofa from G. Romano  introduces a distinctly more masculine line to a modern-style sofa. I love this look, especially for those in a small space.

The reason why? The sleek more compact arms on this sofa make it look less cumbersome and allows it to be placed anywhere in a room. A sofa with larger arms and a more bulky body would need to be tucked into a corner and anchored by larger side tables. With the Ted sofa I would recommend placing two Lucite drum stools slightly beside and in front of the sofa. This will create a visual of more space while allowing for some side table space and additional seating if one has lots of guests over.
